TESTIMONIALS

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Berger,

My name is Claire and my husband's name is Randy.  We're writing you this letter because we need to thank you for helping us through a very difficult time in our life. You see, last summer I was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. Immediately following, my lung collapsed during a biopsy procedure and since then I have not been well enough to go to work and our finances have been suffering ever since.

Randy does the best he can earning a living while taking care of me too.  It's very hard to find balance and it's extremely exhausting.

At the beginning, it was such a  stressful time, lots of tears. We wondered how we were going to pay our bills. We prayed a lot and received much needed spiritual guidance from our friends as well as meals and help with chores.

Then we received a phone call from Michelle Miscione and she helped us fill out the paperwork to qualify us for the  Quality of Life fund. After we were approved, Deidre Hill arranged to have our car payment covered by the fund.  What a relief!!!

Michelle and Deidre are so wonderful and they made the process so easy for us. They've always taken kind and loving care of us.

But none of this could happen without you. So, we can't thank both of you enough for your big hearts and generous donations to the Quality of Life Fund. Thanks to you, we've been able to keep our car.

We thank God everyday that there are people like you that are so willing to help people like us, that allows me to focus on getting well..., and I have. My cancer has been reduced by 50% in 4 months of treatment.

Thank you for blessing our lives wit your generosity.

Love, Randy & Claire Davis.

"I had to put everything I was working for on hold and had to relocate back to Glenwood to be with my parents.

I had to stop thinking about the future and think about today and the moment. Had to decide what was important.

I was working at a radio station in Denver, full time, and a part time internship and everything had to come to a stop.

After I was through with treatment, I wanted to start with a  new and fresh beginning. New place and new job.

Quality of Life took a huge load off of me because they helped pay off my school bills and travel bills. It was tough when I couldn't work any longer but had to travel from California to Colorado.  Relief with school bills was huge. I didn't have to freak out but could relax and focus on getting healthy. Emotionally, it was really nice to have that support system.

I received the news yesterday that my whole body is clear of cancer. I can get back on track with my life now. It's just a huge relief."

"I haven't had time to fully grasp that I have colon cancer. The tumor was 6" long and I had surgery on April 17th.  Now I'm cancer free,. It all went so fast. After a month of waiting I just learned that I don't have to have chemo. The waiting was really hard.

I'm so grateful for all of the support. I just don't know how to thank Barbara and QOL enogh. I need to have an income for this all to work. It was just such a big relief to know I was going to have financial help so I could focus on getting well and being healthy again.

I'm a very busy person and this is the first time I've really had time for me. I have to rest a lot right now. I'll be 72 in 2 weeks.

I met this whole network of wonderful people, at the hospital and at the cancer center that I just love".

"I have stage 2, invasive ductal carcinoma breast cancer. Cancer has been an eye opener for me, a reality check.  Driving back and forth to Glenwood from Basalt, for the infusions has been really crazy hard. I'm grateful for new medical technology that gives me a better chance of living.

QOL has helped me with my rent and getting food for me, my daughter and my 2 grandchildren who are 5 & 7.  We are mostly living off of my daughter's income which is not a whole lot.  I'm so thankful for people who own this hotel, the Aspenault Lodge, who are giving us this room for $500/month.

There are so many generous people out there and they are so loving. I feel like I'm not just a cancer patient but I'm a person. It's hard when the sickness takes over and you lose yourself.

I have one more chemo treatment in 2 weeks and then I start radiation."

"I had squamous cell carcinoma, stage III in my lymphatic cavity. Basically, throat cancer inside of the tissue.  it took them 5 months to diagnose it starting in 2013 and diagnosed in 2014.  Radiation was 2x.day 5 days/week. I had hard core chemo therapy every 2-3 weeks which I had to postpone, at a certain point, because I got so sick. We attacked it very aggressively and today I am cancer free.

The treatment beat me up pretty good. QOL has helped cover the costs of the consequences form hard core aggressive cancer treatment as they weren't able to surgically remove the cancer because of it's location.

Without QOL. I wouldn't be here. They helped enormously by paying for the necessary costs outside of the insurance coverage. Such as, rent, utilities, gas to and from treatment in GWS, food and living expenses.

I'm now unable to work as I'm officially disabled because of the cancer. I used to work in the food banks here in Aspen at the Community Health Center before I was diagnosed. I also helped with the Shining Star Cancer kids through he Elks. We held dances, game night, served burgers, etc.

Now, the tables are turned and I am benefittng from the help of others. I benefitted in a huge way from QOL and I am so deeply grateful. They helped so much with the stress levels as I had no money coming in and had to deal with my treatment.
